Description: Survey of the flora, distribution, and ecology of California ecosystems, including Mediterranean shrub- land, conifer forests, desert scrub, valley forbfields, and exotic grasslands. Discusses vegetation in relation to climate, physiography, fire, landscape steady states, biological invasions, paleobotany, and broad-scale change due to land development, invasive species, grazing, and fire suppression.
