Description: Examination of the work of imprisoned writ- ers of color as well as white intellectuals/activists who have influenced the formation of social movements in the United States since the 1970s as prisons and jails have become primary sites of political and racial con- flict. Elaborates how race, gender, and patriarchy are central to the establishment of state regimes of incar- ceration.
