Description: Explores the relationship between gender and violence. Illustrates ways in which crimes such as incest are not just instances of dysfunction within the black family but are also examples of the roles gender and race play in the historical violence of the nation-state. Examines how integral violence is to the creation of blackness and to the necessity to envi- sion practices of survival. Fulfills the Social Sciences requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
