Description: A comparative and historical survey of the racial dynamics of Hawaii’s multicultural com- munity and the intersections between Hawaii’s ethnic groups: the native Hawaiians, the white (“haole”) pop- ulation, and the plantation immigrant groups, espe- cially the Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, and Portuguese. Includes a discussion of the Pacific Islander population in contemporary Hawaii. Fulfills the Social Sciences requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
