Description: Studies acoustic and optical phonons that affect electrical, thermal, and optical properties of materials. Focuses on the confinement-induced changes of phonon properties in nanostructures and their impli- cations for performance of electronic, thermoelectric, and optoelectronic devices. Explores phonon theory, Raman spectroscopy and other phonon characteriza- tion techniques, thermal conductivity, and related measurements.
