Getting Started
Tasks for today cover project 1A and 1B of the MS Excel section, from page 501 to 562. Work file can be downloaded by right click on this link and select save link as.... Save the files to drive H:, which should contain your account name in the description.
Remember to follow every step in the manual; do not skip any step except for the printing step. This is especially important for this excel part, which is more complex than the previous part about Word. After you have followed the instructions in the manual and finished all the steps, check the following questions before you declare you are done.
Project 1A & 1B
Here is what you should learn from Project 1A & 1B:
- Know different ways to select cells: select whole column or row, drag and select adjacent cells, ctrl-click to select non-adjacent cells, and select all;
- Know how to do navigate a workbook, using Scroll Bar, Name Box and sheet tab;
- Understand chart: a chart may be associated with data in the cells;
- Learn how to group sheets (i.e., select all sheets). Learn how to customize and format the headers and footers (remember to group them before setting the headers and footers); Remember to group sheets before do the printing.
- Try and see what will happen when a value is too wide for its cell; learn the shortcut keys to move around when you are typing;
- How is Excel's AutoComplete different from Word's AutoComplete?
- know how to input dates and how it will be displayed;
- What is "locking in a cell entry"?
- How to edit after single clicking a cell? How to edit after double clicking a cell? What is Edit mode?
- Learn what is formula and how it can be inputed; learn to use "point and click" to easily input a cell reference (cell address, like 3B) into a formula;
- Learn to use AutoSum button: select a destination cell, activate AutoSum, use drag to select cell range for sum, and then press ENTER to accept.
