About Me…

As you can probably guess from my long name (Chotirat "Ann" Ratanamahatana), I'm Thai. Here're little things about myself. I went to high school at Triam Udom Suksa School (TU 53), Bangkok, Thailand (Oh, and to Junior high at Satit Patumwan ('Tumwan 35)), then spent another year at The Madeira School, McLean, Virginia in 12th Grade. I received B.S. in Computer Science (double minors in Mathematics and Music) from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) , Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, spent a year doing grad study at Harvard University, then a Ph.D. in Computer Science at University of California - Riverside .  My researches focus on Data Mining of Time Series under the supervision of my super-intelligent advisor, Dr. Eamonn Keogh. Since October, 2005, I've joined the Department of Computer Engineering as a lecturer at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand.

My hobbies are cooking, bird feeding, gardening (I'm growing corns, tomatoes, and basils in my backyard), and playing piano.  The first 3 hobbies just started when I moved to California.  I started learning to play piano since I was about 4 years old.  My parents' intention originally was just to pull my brother and me away from watching too much Japanese animations during the weekends.  And everything just started from there.  My brother and I were very bored and in agony back then, but our parents didn't let us quit unless we agreed to quit school and everything else in our lives...so, that never happened.  I kept playing and was about to take the exam for Performance Diploma (about a year or so after finishing Grade 8 from Trinity College of Music, London).  Unfortunately, everything was put on hold when I had to come study in the U.S. at the age of 18.  And since I couldn't carry my piano all the way from home, I didn't get to play as much.  Instead, I joined the school quartet and orchestra at The Madeira School, and later went to CMU and minor in music so that I could get a chance to play again.  My brother moved to California in 2003 and bought a state-of-the-art electric piano so that every now and then I have something to play with when I'm bored. Once in a while we just get together and play 'duet'.

One of my favorite piece is Fantasie Impromptu by Chopin. This is me playing the piece on my electric piano last year. And here's my another favorite piece, Schubert Impromptu #2, the one I performed in my piano competition (when I was in tenth grade)....well, it's not yet perfect...I still need to grow more muscle on my arms and fingers :)

Some more pieces by me:- Chopin's Waltz (very joyful), Bethoven's Pathetique (2nd movement).
