Another stands by the fire instead of dancing in the flame
Another stands by the fire instead of dancing in the flame
And so the poet weeps
another is lost to the practical streets
he was to slow to lame
and let another fall from fame
her light was bright from the start
but blow after blow weakened her heart
she thinks she grown and learned
instead she let her heart turn
away from the fire and the flame
she would never have to feel that pain
her dreams are now simple transgressions
no longer ones of passion or aggression
the world is harsh to those who fall
and some decide not to get up at all
the candles flame has lost its light
for those who have stopped the fight
so the romantic stands alone
all the others have gone home
he wonders if he is wrong
how can his right be so strong
standing on his heart like a hill
he waits for his dreams fulfilled
and maybe that unicorn will come out and play
yes he must believe it will some day
because love should never be rational
