This is a Remote Learning (i.e. Online) Course

Following is a summary of how the course will work.

Lectures
- Lectures will be held online using Zoom during the normally scheduled class meeting times. See the Lectures section for the Zoom meeting information for each lecture.
- Students will not need to turn on their webcams during lectures.
- Students can ask questions during lectures using Zoom chat.
Quizzes
- Quizzes will also be given online during the normally scheduled class meeting times on the quiz dates using Canvas and Zoom.
- Students will take the quizzes in Canvas. While taking the quizzes, students must be logged into the class lecture Zoom meeting with their webcams turned on, pointed at them, and should clearly show their face and immediate surroundings.

Contacting the Instructor
- Office hours will also be held using Zoom. See above for the Zoom meeting information.
- If any student needs to setup a personal appointment, that will also be held using Zoom.
- Students can also contact the instructor using the email address above.
Labs
- All labs are web-based and must be completed and submitted online using a web browser.
- See the Required Class Material section for information on how to purchase the lab material and the Labs section for instructions on how to submit labs for grading.
- The lab sections have no scheduled meeting times. Instead, the TAs will have a number of lab office hours each week (in-person, online, or a mixture of both) during which time students can get assistance if they are having any problems with any of the labs.

Student Computer Requirements
- A desktop or laptop computer, broadband Internet access, and camera/mic/headphones are required (not smartphones); see computer options at computer requirement or ITS.

Textbook:

The textbook is is an e-book and is part of Pearson's MyITLab web site. Please see the following MyITLab Labs section.

MyITLab Labs:

The labs will be done and submitted from a web site, Pearson's MyITLab. The cost is $85 if purchased directly from their site. You can instead purchase an access code from the UCR bookstore, but it costs $114, so I do not recommend you do this unless you are using financial aid.

Registering for MyITLab must be done within Canvas, not directly from the MyITLab site. Click on the following link for complete registration instructions: MyITLab Registration Instructions.

You should use either the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browser to do the labs. You may have issues if you use a different browser, so you do so at your own risk.

You must submit each lab through the MyITLab web site before 11:59 PM on the specified due date. The submitted lab will be graded automatically. Please note that MyITLab allows you to save a lab without submitting it so that you can login later and continue working from where you left off. If you do save a lab, though, make sure you login again and submit it before its due date. Also, you can submit a lab more than once (to raise your score), but once you have submitted a lab, you will have start it over if you want to do it again.

Labs can be submitted up to 4 days late for 75% credit. After that, no late labs will be accepted.

Warning to Mac OSX Users: Some exercises are more difficult to complete using a Mac. Using the virtual keyboard usually helps.
