1970's : Mainly used by universities (educational network)
  - MILNet (Military network) : private Internet
  - Services such as e-mail, newsgroup, listserv developed

1980's : Internet (some companies started using)

1990's : World Wide Web
  - GUI for the Internet
  - Makes Internet easier to use
  - Led to connections starting to increase exponentially

  - Transformed into a commercial network
