My work focuses on network measurement. Question like what are the characteristics of a particular kind of traffic generated by an application or by a special kind of workload interest me greatly. This genre of network research is not only important for verifying models developed to mimic application behavior but also to benchmark simulations and new hacks to existing software.

A large part of my day revolves around looking into interesting areas such as Content Distribution, Podcasting, Peer-to-Peer networks, Anonymization networks and Blacklists.

  • trying to understand, where users are located in the Internet

  • who talks to whom

  • traffic patterns

  • how safe are users from the RIAA/MPAA

I also work on analyzing P2P flows meandering through the net to get to know which ISPs provide most transit to P2P users and if ISPs and users can both benefit from information regarding spatial characteristics of these data flows.

I also work on embedded systems, primarily sensor platforms, and re-configurable fabrics such as FPGAs which allow me to prototype and benchmark my ideas and implement a working design.

I'm trying to do some "great" work which would be meaningful the research community. I expect to join a good research lab after my PhD.

A Typical day in the lab for Anirban Banerjee.. :D
