Lab Rules
Although these rules may seem a bit draconian, they are intended to
provide you with an educational environment that is both pleseant
and rewarding. If you take issue with any of these rules, please
voice your concerns to your TA at the beginning of the quarter
so that the issue may be resolved quickly.
The rules of the lab are as follows:
- Above all, respect your fellow classmates.
- Respect the lab equipment and lab area. Don't leave trash hiding
behind your monitor, etc.
- Collaboration is encouraged unless explicitly forbidden. Leeching
off the labors of others, as well as enabling that type of
behaviour is strongly frowned upon.
- Participation in lab, asking questions, fostering discussion, as
well as pointing out ambiguities or insufficiencies in what is being
covered in lab is strongly encouraged.
- Attendence for the full 3 hours of each lab is mandatory and
non-negotiable.
- You are expected to come to lab well prepared and ready to work
for the full 3 hours.
- Using the computer during in-lab lectures for any purpose
other than following along with what is being covered on the class web
page is strictly prohibited. No working on assignments, no web
surfing, no email (reading or writing), no AIM, no gaming,
etc.
- The TA will not tolerate behavior which interferes with the
education of the other students in the lab, and will not hesitate
to remove any individual who is being disrespectful of others.
- The TA is here to assist you in learning the material.
- The TA will not give debugging or coding help unless your code
is thoroughly commented, uses good variable names, and complies with
the class
coding standards.
- Lab is long, but should be enjoyable (at least on an academic
level, if nothing else ). If you arn't enjoying it, point this
out to your TA, and tell them what you think would make things
better. You'd be suprised what kind of results you can get.
