My Friends... (eternally under construction)

Suppose you are reading a interesting novel and someone takes the book away from you. How do you feel? Won't you be curious about what happened to those characters in the novel? My friends are characters of the novel of my life.

Starting from the early childhood days till date I have a lot of friends. I am in touch with most of them. In this page, I will make an attempt to remember them. If I lost touch with you (or vice vera) I look forward for your email.

It is a challenging task. To collect all memories from the mind and presenting them in a organized manner is not trivial. How should I approach? Should I list them according to the time when we got in touch or should I list them alphabetically? Difficult question.

The approach I am trying to follow is I would list them according to the source of contact. So, here it goes:

Durgapur (1,2, 3)

I met Shankha Shubhro Khan when we were in kindergarten. We studied some days together, but soon, we transferred to different schools and later different cities. Later, we used to meet regularly when I was in Gurgaon. He is a good cook and passionate singer. I like to remember him, singing, "Nir choto khoti nei...". I came to know Ayan Bhowmik through him. Shankha, Ayan and me spent some nice evenings together.

I have lost touch with lot of friends from my first school Pranavananda Vidyamandir. Sandip Banerjee was a great athlete. Hindol Basu was a great story teller. Indranil, Angshuman, Raju Ghosh were the main enthusiasts for the cricket matches, informal quiz competitions. I can remember Mili Bhattacharya, Pritha Ghosh; they were very serious in studies. Nibedita Dutta, Susmita Mitra were very cheerful and friendly. There are lots of others whom I faintly remember.

I spent two years at Durgapur Projects Township Boys's High School (aka New Boys). From my classmates there, I still recall Avishek Naha, Shirshendu Chatterjee, Manikarna Sengupta. I used to walk back home with Pankaj Kanjilal and Arabinda Saha.

I have some friends who were not my classmates. I knew them because we lived close to each other. Rijubrata Guhathakurta (Bumba), Abhijit Mukherjee (Gablu), Pratip Ganguly (Banti), Samudra Gupta (Biltu'da), Sayantan (Tatai), Santanu Banerjee, Subhendu, Somenath Lahiri, Binku, Priyom, Subhrajit are among them. As long as I was in Durgapur, we met each other regularly at the playgrounds. Later, when I went to schools outside Durgapur, we used to meet only in the summer and puja vacations. Those vacations were fast. Sometimes we biked to the nearby river Damodar, on some days we used to sit on a grass field near the rail tracks. Lately, we became bridge freaks, playing four hours a day.

The four years at JU, 1995 - 99 are finest days of my life. Well, so far. In the department of Computer Science, we 53 students joined in 1995. We studied together, we played together, we enjoyed together. We call ourselves JUCSE99.

During my JU days, I stayed at New Block Hostel.
