EDUCATION AND WORK
RESEARCH TOPICS
Dr. Molle's research interests include computer networking, performance
evaluation, and distributed algorithms. He is particularly interested
in
fundamental performance limits, and in applying analytical modelling
techniques to practical problems in computer systems.

LATEST RESULTS
- A ``perfect'' medium access control protocol for high-speed
unidirectional bus networks without upstream feedback that is
completely
fair and does not introduce any overhead (with D. Manjunath of the
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur).
- A new distributed minimum spanning tree algorithm that
introduces
the concept of distributed information storage to speed up its
execution
(with Michalis Faloutsos).
- BLAM: an enhanced
backoff algorithm that is backwards compatible with existing CSMA/CD
Ethernets. Dr. Molle chairs the IEEE 802.3w
task force, which is adding this new algorithm into the Ethernet
standard.
